Master Bedroom - Minted Interiors Coast Project

Some rooms are gobsmacking before you even have a chance to paint, or install a single piece of furniture or decor and (although I would love to take ALL of the credit!) this room was definitely one of them, thanks to the jaw dropping perspective of the ocean below. This incredible wow factor was a-plenty even with the musty old carpet, murky grey walls and outdated aluminum window frames it sported before this reno project began.

Perched up on the corner of the second story of our Minted Interiors Coast Project home is this Master Bedroom - the stuff coastal dreams are made of. The perspective across the rugged coast line, the sound of waves crashing below, the flood of natural light and the salty breeze, give this space an incredible connection to the surrounding natural environment; and when I first walked in, my interior heart was thumping with excitement about the possibilities.

As with the other spaces featured in this Minted Interiors Coast Project, we wanted to achieve a contemporary coastal bohemian style. This room is ALL about that spectacular view, so when I first laid eyes on the expansive scenery I knew the natural environment needed to remain the hero of this space. With this is mind, the colour palette was inspired by the dramatic, natural coastal environment beyond - soft blue ocean tones, sandy hues, shades of white and greenery. Simple, neutral furniture and decor choices were selected to add texture and layers to compliment and reflect the beautiful view, rather than distract from it; and the natural material palette was also chosen to connect with the surroundings - cane, timber, leather, hemp, linen and plant life.

Bohemian interiors are known for incorporating repurposed items and steering away from shiny or overly new looking pieces, so in a nod to this dreamy boho style - we installed some repurposed shutters as a bedhead. Set against a cladded wall, this new layer of texture creates a breezy beach side earthiness in the room without distracting from the view.

Bohemian interiors often feature pieces inspired from lands afar, which is why macrame wall hangings (originating in the 13th century and associated with Arabic and Turkish origins) can work well in a boho space. Macrame works particularly well with a coastal-bohemian style, as it was widely used by sailors in times gone by to decorate parts of ships and items aboard. A coastal reference without being too literal, - navigating away (pardon the pun!) from undesirable coastal interior cliches. With this in mind, an epically HUGE and stunning feature macrame wallhanging by local Geraldton talent KoKio was selected to create interest on the wall as you walk in. This intricate handiwork instantly creates a punch of boho texture and style, without overwhelming the space, thanks to it's natural materials and neutral colour. Teamed with an Australian made Barnaby Lane armchair, it creates a restful place to enjoy the view.

Bedside spaces provide a great opportunity to add some style and character to your bedroom and can be the difference between a beautiful bedroom interior and an average one.  Here I've combined table top styling in colours reflecting the beautiful Seafoam linen by Bedtonic, blanket by Country Road and linen throw by Linen & More, a top of breezy style cane bedsides from Roma Gifts to compliment the coastal style chosen for this room. The lamp is by Citta Design, blue vase and trinket bowl by Marmoset Found and stunning blooms by Botanical Den.

It REALLY helps your room reveal photos when your client is willing to jump into frame and is THIS outrageously gorgeous!! Meet home owner and amazing client Kristy, who was so accommodating, trusting in my design work and generous with her time for this project and photoshoot. She is pictured here in a dress by Spell & The Gypsy Collective with her gorgeous pup Penny who became my little shadow during this project, always pottering around behind me as I worked on each space. I really wanted to pop her into my handbag on my last visit but sadly I knew Kirsty and her fam would miss her poochy cuteness too much!

As part of this Reno project, a large area of the top floor flowing on from the Adult Entertaining + Retreat Zone was dedicated to this Master Bedroom zone, including a walk-in-robe and ensuite, completing the perfect sanctuary to enjoy some rest and relaxation.
